Biography

Oskar Evers is a Dutch artist, born in Poland, whose work explores the hidden and often conflicting aspects of identity. Working across painting and installation, he transforms bodies, faces and found objects into images that balance between recognition and disruption. His work is characterised by strong colour contrasts, expressive brushwork and a tension between control and instability.

Evers’ practice is driven by intuition, discovery and the deliberate use of contradiction. In his paintings, loosely rendered forms coexist with more defined colour fields, while his installations incorporate altered everyday objects—such as crates, cages and cabinets—whose original function is undermined. Through these interventions, familiar elements become carriers of psychological and emotional tension.

Although rooted in a personal process, his work avoids fixed narratives. Instead, it presents situations that feel slightly off—ambiguous, sometimes absurd, and open to interpretation. Recurring themes include confinement, vulnerability and inner friction, often expressed through fragmented or destabilised forms.

A self-taught artist, Evers began painting during a period of personal upheaval, using the medium as a way to process and reshape his experiences. His work is informed by a wide range of artist such as Vincent van Gogh, Caspar David Friedrich and Willem de Kooning.

In 2024, Evers took part in the annual exhibition of the New English Art Club in London. His work is currently exhibited at Erik Neimeijer Gallery in Nijverdal, the Netherlands.
